Pediatric Cardiology Heart Transplant Picnic 2006
On August 10, 2006, the staff of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at Mount Sinai hosted a picnic in Central Park for our pediatric heart transplant patients and their families. Activities included face painting, and arts and crafts. Patients, families and staff also spent time catching up on the past year and reflecting on the remarkable journey from surgery to the present day.
Unfortunately the weather turned out not so favorable, as an unexpected summer shower abruptly ended the festivities, but everyone enjoyed the time together and promised to do it again next year.

Theater Event 2005 "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"

19th Annual Valentine's Reunion Party
On February 14, 2005, the Mount Sinai Division of Pediatric Cardiology together with the Children's Heart Fund and the Mount Sinai Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery sponsored the 19 th Annual Valentine's Reunion Party which was more than fun, it was fabulous. Families came from all over New York and New Jersey to celebrate Valentine's Day in the

Annenberg West Lobby at Mount Sinai Medical Center. It was hard to determine who was having more fun, the staff or the patients. Each of the families invited had a child who was a patient and has been a member of the Brave Heart Club. This event is held to celebrate their many milestones.

Each year this event gives patients, families, and staff members the opportunity to rejoice and partake in several entertaining activities together. It also gave some parents the opportunity to reunite with other families that they met during their experience at Mount Sinai . Many were amazed at the growth and changes that had occurred since they had last met.

The lobby was decorated with a multitude of cut out cartoon characters, each custom made by the pediatric cardiology staff. The children enjoyed getting their faces painted, were dancing and singing to the songs of the live musician, and ran to the spin art booth to create a masterpiece of their own. The food was enjoyed to the fullest and the laughter from all the attendees filled the Annenberg Lobby with love, hope, encouragement, and joy.

We would like to thank all of the families for sharing this wonderful day and event with us and cannot wait to see everyone again next year. A special thanks to all the volunteers and staff who helped pull this event together effortlessly. This year the event would not have been possible with out the generous donations of the following people and organizations: Josh Glatt and the New York Fun Factory; Hebrew National; Carl and John Makula and Ambassador Food Service, Enda Keegan, and Tom Otterness.

3rd Annual Precious Heart Ball
The Children's Heart Fund's Third Annual Precious Heart Ball took place on April 29, 2003 and was chaired by John H. Eyler, Chairman and CEO of Toys "R" Us, Inc., and his wife, Dolores. The event, honoring the outstanding contributions and achievements of Randall B. Griepp, MD, Professor and Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery,

was held at the beautiful Regent Wall Street Hotel. The evening drew 250 attendees and raised $230,000 to benefit the Mount Sinai School of Medicine's Division of Pediatric Cardiology. The evening began with an enjoyable cocktail hour and entertaining silent auction which included unique items such as Children's Heart Fund custom signature bears donated by Toys "R" Us, Inc. and signed by Jay Leno and former Mayor Rudolph Guiliani. The silent auction also included rare sports memorabilia, exotic vacations and exquisite jewelry. The attendees then retreated to the grand ballroom for dinner, dancing, toasts and a live auction. The tables were resplendent with magnificent floral centerpieces that included the Children's Heart Fund custom signature bear.

As the attendees began to dine on the sumptuous food, a video was presented detailing the vital work that is performed by the Mount Sinai Divisions of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery. The heart-warming presentation drew cheers and applause and set the tone for the evening. Soon after, guests filled the dance floor, dancing to the lively music of NY City Swing.

Next, Mr. Eyler greeted the attendees and spoke very candidly and movingly about his personal experiences with Mount Sinai 's Division's of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery. After more dining and dancing, the honorary co-chairs of the evening, Dr. Valentin Fuster, Director of both the Zena and Michael A. Wiener Cardiovascular Institute and the Marie-Josée and Henry R. Kravis Center for Cardiovascular Health and Dr. David Adams, Chairman of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery presented Dr. Randall B. Griepp with the Precious Heart Award. Dr. Greipp received a standing ovation for his immeasurable contributions to Mount Sinai and the field of congenital cardiac surgery.

Finally, at the end of the evening, an exciting live auction took place, run by a Sotheby's auctioneer who donated her time. Included items were, valuable art, a children's birthday party at Toy's "R" Us's flagship Times Square store, a luxurious cruise on the Radisson Seven Seas cruise line and a Mercedes car lease. In addition, an exciting raffle took place and the lucky grand prize winner received a classic men's rolex watch.

After desert, the attendees continued to dance into the night and were given wonderful parting gift bags filled with such treats as chocolate, gift certificates and other mementos of the evening. The event was a paramount success and all that attended had a most fabulous evening.

Theater Event 2003 "The Boy From Oz"

The Children's Heart Fund held its annual Broadway theater event on October 29, 2003. We attended The Boy From Oz, the new musical about the life of Peter Allen. The event raised $10,000 to benefit the Mount Sinai School of Medicine's Division of Pediatric Cardiology.

Although the show received disappointing reviews just before the event, the packed house was enthusiastic and thoroughly entertained throughout the evening. Hugh Jackman, the talented star of the show, was endlessly charming, and energetic, but he really won over the female segment of the audience when his shirt came off in one of the final scenes. The other performances were terrific as well, and a good time was definitely had by all.

The most exciting part of the evening, however, came after the final curtain fell. Jackman and fellow castmates came out on stage and started auctioning off items to raise money for a theater charity. The most expensive item was a Halloween pumpkin signed by the cast, which went for $1500, but the women generated a frenzied bidding war over an autographed towel with Jackman's sweat on it . In addition, the opportunity to have a picture taken with Jackman, at $150 a pop, produced a line out the theater door. Let's just say hearts were thumping over this Children's Heart Fund event!
